Cookie Policy

What Cookies Are
Cookies are small text files stored on your device when you visit a website. They help the site remember things about your visit — like whether you're logged in or which theme you prefer. We also use local storage, which works similarly but stays in your browser.
How We Use Them
We use cookies and local storage for three purposes: keeping the site working (essential), remembering your preferences (functional), and understanding how people use TutorPing (analytics — only with your consent).
Cookie List
Essential
These are required for the site to work. They can't be turned off.
| Name | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|
| next-auth.session-token | Keeps you logged in | 24 hours |
| next-auth.csrf-token | Prevents cross-site request forgery | Session |
| portal_verified_* | Remembers parent portal verification | 4 hours |
Functional
These remember your preferences. Strictly speaking, the theme preference uses local storage rather than a cookie, but we disclose it here for transparency.
| Name | Purpose | Storage |
|---|---|---|
| theme | Remembers light/dark mode preference | localStorage |
| cookie-consent | Stores your cookie preferences | Cookie (1 year), shared by the TutorPing site and app |
| NEXT_LOCALE | Remembers the language you picked | Session cookie, shared by the site and app |
| tutorping-timezone-keep | Remembers that you chose to keep your saved time zone when your device is set to a different one | localStorage |
Analytics (consent required)
These are only set if you click "Accept All" or enable analytics in the cookie settings. They help us understand which pages are visited and how people navigate the site.
| Name | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|
| _ga | Google Analytics — distinguishes users | 2 years |
| _ga_* | Google Analytics — maintains session state | 2 years |
Third-Party Cookies
- Google Analytics — sets the
_gacookies listed above. Only loaded with your consent. Google's privacy policy. - Stripe — may set cookies during the checkout process for fraud prevention. Stripe's privacy policy.
Managing Cookies
You have several options for managing cookies:
- Our cookie banner — accept or reject analytics cookies when you first visit.
- Browser settings — most browsers let you block or delete cookies. Check your browser's help pages for instructions.
- Change your choice — click Cookie settings at the bottom of any page. If you turn analytics off, we delete the
_gacookies straight away.
Note that blocking essential cookies will prevent you from logging in.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this cookie policy as we add or remove cookies. Check back periodically, or watch for updates to the "Last updated" date above.
